Giving Stories

Donors graciously share their personal thoughts on the joys they have experienced while giving to charity. We hope their experiences will resonate with you, and spark new thoughts or ideas about your own giving.

John Victor Beck

WFIU was the partial beneficiary from the estate auction of long time WFIU listener John Victor Beck. Over a lifetime John collected a wide variety of art work from paintings, sculptures, old books to musical instruments.

A local pharmacist of modest means, John had been a contributor to WFIU since 1980. He took advantage of “Days of Dedication” to recognize important people in his life and gave to organizations that he believed in and that shared his values.

Several years before his death in 2005 John informed the WFIU Planned Gifts Officer about his decision to include WFIU in his will. John’s thoughtful decision is now assisting WFIU stay current in the music library. John left a wonderful legacy for all of us.

In life John thought that during fund drives the announcer should mention the tax benefits of making a gift. So to honor John’s request, you should know that there are tax benefits when you make a major or planned gift to WFIU and/or WTIU.
