Gifts of Property

There are two major forms of property:

  1. Personal Property
Everyone has tangible personal property of some value: works of art, antiques, jewelry, rare books, or other collections (such as coins or cars, for example). To give such items, you must have held them for more than a year.
  2.

  3. Real Estate
Donating marketable real estate such as a personal residence or vacation home, commercial property, or even vacant land, can be a creative way to make a significant gift to WFIU and/or WTIU and at the same time receive important tax benefits and even income.

The benefits include:

  • A charitable income tax deduction
  • Avoidance of capital gain tax on the property's appreciation at the time the gift is made
  • Removal of the property from your estate, potentially reducing estate taxes and probate costs

A gift of your real property can also relieve you of the burden of managing or selling the property. Real property gifts can be made in several ways. Learn more »

To discuss your intentions or to learn more, contact Nancy Krueger at (812) 855-2935 or send an E-mail.

Please notify us if you are including the station in your estate plans. We want to say “Thank you!” Plus, we can help you ensure that your gift makes the biggest possible impact. If you have not written a will yet, regardless of your charitable intent, please consider doing so.
